I worked closely with product designers and engineers to assemble electronics with ultra precise specifications.
Robots to the rescue.
In order to meet product specs, I designed robotic tools to perform assembly tasks (example process - not my design - in video). Designing the tool was the first challenge - scaling many of them to build millions of products was the second.
It wasn’t all nuts and bolts.
In some assembly processes, I needed to actively measure component performance prior to assembly. With lenses, this meant developing a process to measure contrast and sharpness prior to final gluing. (example of process in video)
